We invite you to take this opportunity to be a part of our upcoming 2008, 14th Annual Kentucky Mental Health Counselors Association Conference. The Kentucky Mental Health Counselors Association is leading the way in providing opportunities for professionals across the Commonwealth. This year's conference theme is titled:
“Counselors Seeking Identity: Who Are You?” |
 |
The counseling/therapy field is comprised of a complex, and often perplexing selection of overlapping and related, but distinct professions that include mental health counseling, psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, pastoral counseling, and others. Because these professionals often look and behave alike, it is often confusing to the public and difficult for one to understand one’s own distinct professional identity. At this conference, we will be looking specifically at the uniqueness and specialty of the mental health counseling profession. |

KMHCA is proud to announce Sergeant Major Tony Rose, M.Ed., LPCA, as our Keynote Speaker for this year’s conference. On September 11, 2001, Sgt. Maj. Tony Rose was talking with his co-workers in the Pentagon about the World Trade Center attack, when American Airlines flight 77 slammed into the building at over 400 miles per hour, exploding directly under Mr. Rose’s second floor office. Twenty-nine of his fellow soldier and civilian employees perished around him. Blown to the floor by the concussion blast, Mr. Rose watched in slow motion as the building ripped apart around him and the 2200-degree fireball ignited everything it touched.
Mr. Rose is a Mental Health Licensed Professional Counseling Associate working with troubled and traumatized youth. He served as the Department of the Army's Senior Career Counselor Sergeant Major, at the Pentagon. Mr. Rose received the Army Soldier's Medal for Heroism for reentering the burning Pentagon five times to save lives on 9-11 and the Purple Heart for personal injuries incurred. Mr. Rose’s numerous military awards and decorations also include Israel's Mighty Man of Valor Award and the American Yellow Ribbon of Freedom Award.
This year marks yet another step forward for the KMHCA Annual Conference. The Conference will be held at the Center for Rural Development in Somerset, Kentucky. This is a state of the art Conference Center complete with an audio/visual setup in each break out room and a professionally staged auditorium that seats up to seven hundred (700) individuals. Additionally, there will be a featured session at each time slot which is designed to be both a cutting edge and motivational experience. There will be a fifteen (15) minute break between each session; each session will be a full hour. The exhibit hall will feature various professional counseling resources. There will be a wide variety of informational sessions offered throughout the day. All professionals will be able to obtain continuing education units (CEU’s).
