The 16th Annual KMHCA Conference - April 12-13 2010
Our Theme this year is:

"Helping the Individual, Community, and Society: The Role of Advocacy in Mental Health Counseling"

We invite you to take this opportunity to be a part of our upcoming 2010, 16th Annual Kentucky Mental Health Counselors Association Conference.  The Kentucky Mental Health Counselors Association is leading the way in providing opportunities for professionals across the Commonwealth.

The counseling/therapy field is comprised of a complex, and often perplexing selection of overlapping and related, but distinct professions that include mental health counseling, psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, pastoral counseling, and others. Because these professionals often look and behave alike, it is often confusing to the public and difficult for one to understand one’s own distinct professional identity. At this conference, we will be looking specifically at the uniqueness and specialty of the mental health counseling profession.

This year marks yet another step forward for the KMHCA Annual Conference.  The Conference will be held at the Center for Rural Development in Somerset, Kentucky.  This is a state of the art Conference Center complete with an audio/visual setup in each break out room and a professionally staged auditorium that seats up to seven hundred (700) individuals.  Additionally, there will be a featured session at each time slot which is designed to be both a cutting edge and motivational experience.  There will be a fifteen (15) minute break between each session; each session will be a full hour.  The exhibit hall will feature various professional counseling resources.  There will be a wide variety of informational sessions offered throughout the day.  All professionals will be able to obtain continuing education units (CEU’s).

Relax and enjoy your opportunity to network with friends and colleagues from around the state while attending KMHCA’s catered Reception on Monday, April 12th at 5pm. Additionally, KMHCA invites you to attend a catered Luncheon on Tuesday, April 13th at Noon. Conference attendees are invited to attend both catered events at no additional cost.

Highlights of 3-hour Specialty Workshops on Monday, April 12, 2010:
  • Getting Started in Private Practice(3 CEUs) - Dr. Martin C. Wesley and Dr. Neresa Minatrea
  • Many more to come!

New Feature to the 2010 KMHCA Conference: POSTER SESSIONS

The Kentucky Mental Health Counselors Association is pleased to announce an innovative component to our upcoming conference on April 12-13, 2010: the Poster Sessions. The poster format offers an excellent opportunity to present and observe new research, interact with fellow students and professionals on an individual basis, and incorporate multi-media resources into the conference presentation. Any individual interested in counseling topics that lend themselves to visual presentation are especially encouraged to utilize this format. The poster session can also be valuable for graduate students and those with works-in-progress (e.g., Master’s thesis or Doctoral Dissertation), as it provides the opportunity for detailed feedback and one-on-one conversations.

Poster Guidelines:

  1. Each presenter (or group of presenters) will have a 4’ high x 8’ wide tack (bulletin) board on which to display material.
  2. Posters/materials must be designed to hang from bulletin boards (which will be provided). Tables will not be provided for freestanding posters.
  3. Please create your posters with the reader in mind—i.e., make them clear and organized, easily read from 4-6 feet away, and include any photos or graphics that would aid in understanding your counseling subject area.
  4. Poster Sessions will be featured throughout the 2-day conference and each presenter (or group of presenters) will be asked to be available for a one-hour time slot to present his/her work and facilitate a discussion.

To be considered to present a poster, you must submit an abstract by March 31st, by filling out the online Poster Session Proposal Form.
